Submissions

Iran & Global Affairs welcomes original, rigorous, and accessible contributions on Iran and its place in the world.

We are particularly interested in essays that advance a clear argument, are grounded in evidence, and speak to questions of public, policy, historical, economic, social, or cultural significance.

We publish contributions from scholars, policymakers, practitioners, journalists, historians, economists, cultural specialists, and other informed voices. We welcome different perspectives and do not require contributors to share a particular political position.

What we publish

Our main formats include:

Analysis: 800-1,000 words.
A focused, evidence-based argument on a significant issue.

Brief: 400-600 words.
A concise explanation of an important development: what happened, why it matters, and what to watch next.

Debate: typically two contributions of around 800 words each.
Competing arguments on a consequential question.

Essay: approximately 1,500-2,000 words.
Longer-form analysis, interpretation, or intellectual argument.

Policy Forum: typically 300-500 words per contributor.
Several experts responding to one clearly defined policy question.

We also welcome serious contributions on history, art, architecture, literature, heritage, and cultural and intellectual life.

What we look for

Strong submissions should offer a clear argument, engage seriously with evidence, explain the consequences or wider significance of the issue, and contribute something original or analytically useful to the debate.

We generally do not publish pieces that are primarily promotional, partisan, polemical, or descriptive without a clear argument.

For proposals, please include the proposed title, the central argument, the intended format, and a brief note on your relevant expertise.
