Mission

Iran & Global Affairs is an independent English-language publication devoted to serious ideas and informed debate about Iran and its place in the world.

We publish rigorous, accessible analysis that connects scholarship, policy, politics, history, economics, society, and culture. Our aim is to make strong expertise useful beyond academia and to bring evidence-based arguments about Iran into international public and policy debate.

Iran is our anchor, but not our limit. Understanding Iran requires attention to the wider forces that shape it: the Middle East, Europe, the United States, Russia, China, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the international system more broadly.

We are interested not simply in what ought to happen, but in what can happen, why it happens, and what follows from different choices. Our contributors examine institutions, power, interests, incentives, capabilities, constraints, and unintended consequences alongside questions of rights, political change, economic development, history, and culture.

Iran & Global Affairs is intellectually independent. It is not affiliated with the Iranian government, any political party, or any opposition movement. We welcome serious contributions from different perspectives and judge them by the quality of their argument, evidence, and reasoning rather than by political conformity.

Our mission is to create an international forum where scholars, policymakers, practitioners, public figures, and other informed voices can contribute to a deeper understanding of Iran, and where rigorous ideas can inform consequential debate.
